The marathon course go out along Hafrsfjord, where runners pass the memorial “Swords in Rock”, erected as a monument to the Viking battle in 872 as a result of which Norway became unified into one kingdom. The design of “Swords in Rock” is also the motive for the 15th anniversary participants medal 🙂
The largest sword represents the victorious king, while the other two symbolize the unlucky opponents, The memorial is also a symbol of peace, with swords sunk into the mountain, unfit to be used again.The swords are 9.2 meters high, and the design is based on swords found throughout the country.
The childrens race and marathon will have race medals in gold, while 10 km and half marathon have silve medals. The fist two pictures are the front of the marahon medals.The last is the back of the marathon medal.
